JCRA Impact Assessment 2020-2025

The JCRA commissioned Frontier Economics to undertake an independent impact assessment of the JCRA's competition and regulatory activities between 2020 and 2025.

The assessment considers how the JCRA's work supports competition, consumer outcomes, service quality, market resilience and investment across the sectors it regulates. It also estimates the direct consumer benefits generated by a selected group of competition and regulatory interventions undertaken during the period.

Frontier Economics estimates that seven selected JCRA interventions generated £22.7m-£41.6m in direct consumer benefits, equivalent to £36-£66 per Islander per year and a return of £5.60-£10.20 for every £1 invested. The assessment also identified a wider range of benefits not captured in these estimates, including stronger competition, improved service quality, enhanced resilience, greater transparency and support for investment and innovation.
