Spectrum Licensing
The JCRA has authority to issue telecommunications licenses under the Telecommunications (Jersey) 2002 Law. However, telecommunications operators that require wireless frequency spectrum to operate their existing or proposed services will require separate spectrum licenses.
Spectrum licenses are issued in Jersey by the UK communications authority Ofcom under the UK Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006 and the Communications Act 2003 by virtue of the extension of the appropriate sections of these laws to Jersey under Orders in Council. Ofcom manages spectrum and international coordination on behalf of the States of Jersey as set out in these Orders in Council.
Operators and potential operators of telecommunications should nevertheless contact the JCRA in the first instance in order to verify the requirements under the law. The JCRA will from time to time make operators aware of forthcoming spectrum licence awards and changes to the wireless spectrum licensing requirements where appropriate to Jersey.
